James Gunn Confirms the Viola Davis Waller Series Is, In Fact, Still in Development

Marvel boss James Gunn wants you to know: the rumors aren’t true. The DC Studios head has officially confirmed that the upcoming Waller television series is, in fact, still in development. The longtime producer took to Threads recently to confirm the show’s status in response to a fan who asked if the rumors about Waller being reworked into a Checkmate show were untrue. He confirmed that they were untrue with a one-word “yes” response to the fan. Another fan then swooped in to confirm in no uncertain terms, “So Waller is still in development?” and Gunn gave another one-word “yes” answer. It’s good to hear a hard confirmation from the DCU boss, considering he recently acknowledged that the series was having some difficulties behind the scenes amid the development process. “Waller has had a couple of, you know, setbacks, frankly,” Gunn explained at a DC Studios press event alongside co-studio head Peter Safran back in February. Otherwise, details have been pretty sparse about ...

We’re past the halfway point of 2025. Crazy, I know. To help you avoid the existential dread of that realization, think about the plus side: a batch of new arrivals on all your favorite streaming services! Here’s a look at what’s coming to Disney+ in July. Everything Coming to Disney+ in July July 1 Ironheart Season 1 (episodes 4-6) Critter Fixers: Country Vets Season 6 (12 episodes) Lost Treasures of Egypt Season 5 (10 episodes) Disney+ is kicking off July with the final three episodes of the MCU’s latest series. F1: What Hollywood Needs to Learn From the Brad Pitt Racing Movie

Warning: This piece contains spoilers for F1. Well here’s something I wasn’t expecting to say before this weekend: the Formula One movie is one of the best films released so far this year. 2025 has had some solid hits, such as Sinners , The Assessment, 28 Years Later , and Final Destination Bloodlines (really!), and now we can add F1 to the list. Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski is back with yet another meat and potatoes studio crowd-pleaser starring an aging movie star who proves he’s Still Got It™ via a fast-moving vehicle as metaphor for masculine self-actualization, this time replacing fighter jets with, you guessed it, Formula One race cars. It’s the kind of movie that knows exactly what it wants to be and executes it with care and precision. Let’s delve into the film’s spoilery details and how F1 proves that Kosinski is one of the best blockbuster directors currently working. A Fine-Tuned Machine What makes F1 being as good as it is something of a surprise is ...

Arnold Schwarzenegger's Pick for Worst Terminator Movie of All Time Is No Surprise: 'It Doesn't Make Any Sense'

What’s the worst Terminator movie of all time? Fans have debated this question for years. James Cameron’s 1984 thriller The Terminator, and its blockbuster follow-up, 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day, are considered two of the greatest sci-fi films ever made, and neither should be considered here. But that still leaves four Terminator sequels to sort. Here are all the Terminator films released so far: The Terminator October 26, 1984 Terminator 2: Judgment Day July 3, 1991 Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines July 2, 2003 Terminator Salvation May 21, 2009 Terminator Genisys July 1, 2015 Terminator: Dark Fate November 1, 2019 So, this really comes down to four movies: Terminator 3; Salvation; Genisys; and Dark Fate, all of which were poorly received. Terminator fans have been ordering this list of films from best to worse for years, but now Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Terminator himself, has had his say — although I think his answer is packed full of bias. The 77-year-o...

Superbad Star Michael Cera Turned Down Harry Potter Spin-Off Fantastic Beasts After Getting 'Fear' of Becoming 'Too Famous'

Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts could have featured Scott Pilgrim and Superbad star Michael Cera — until the actor turned down the opportunity to avoid getting "too famous." As revealed by Cera himself in a new episode of Louis Theroux's podcast (thanks, Variety ), Fantastic Beasts' casting directors were keen for him to play a major part in the franchise that would have given the star years of work. Ultimately, however, Cera said the time commitment and the high-profile nature of the franchise gave him "fear" — though he didn't rule out joining another blockbuster series, such as Marvel, at some point in the future. "I don't even know if I was offered, I think I just declined to engage with it because I think it would be like probably six years commitment or something," Cera said. "But also, I did sort of make a conscientious choice to limit my exposure a little bit, or just try and be a little more in control of it. An...

James Gunn Opens Up About Guillermo Del Toro's Wish to Make a Justice League Dark Film: 'He Never Said That To Me'

You may have, once or twice in your travels, heard the rumor that the legendary Guillermo del Toro wants to make a Justice League Dark film. Would be cool, wouldn’t it? Well, despite word of del Toro's interest, DC boss James Gunn says he's yet to hear from the filmmaker about wanting to work on the project. “I love Guillermo, and we own a movie theater together. By the way, Guillermo's never said that to me,” he told Entertainment Weekly . “I hear all these things about, ‘Guillermo would love to do Justice League Dark.’ Well, Guillermo's never said that to me.” DC did make an animated Justice League Dark series in 2017, but a new incarnation with del Toro at the helm? Well, the idea was cool while it lasted. Gunn even noted that del Toro isn’t the only major filmmaker he’s heard these types of comments about. “‘Just let Steven Spielberg do his Blackhawks movie that he wants to do!’ Steven Spielberg, who I love above anyone else, has never said that to me. So t...

The Last of Us Star Can't Watch ‘That’ Scene, Doesn’t Want to Watch *Spoiler* Die

Warning: Spoilers for The Last of Us Season 2 follow. The Last of Us Season 1’s Nico Parker hasn’t watched its second season yet, because she “can’t watch Pedro die.” Parker, who played Joel’s daughter Sarah in the season one premiere of the HBO adaptation of the hit Naughty Dog game series, told IGN that her on-screen father, Pedro Pascal, has been asking, “Have you seen it yet? What did you think of it?” “I literally can’t do it,” the How to Train Your Dragon star replied. It’s somewhat understandable — Joel’s demise comes suddenly and shockingly violently — but that doesn’t mean Parker won’t eventually get around to facing her fears, though. “I’ve seen some of it,” she confirmed, “I just can’t watch that episode, but I am gonna. I’m gonna do it. I just need to have, like, three days of rest period afterwards. I keep seeing clips, and it’s just too much, I can’t. It makes me too sad.” If Parker can make it through Episode 2, she’s looking forward to seeing the rest of the sto...

Spider-Man: The Animated Series Writer Says He Was Not Asked to Work on Spider-Man '94

Spider-Man: The Animated Series fans, rejoice: there’s a new comic book, Spider-Man '94, on the way that will finally expand upon the animated series’ major cliffhanger — but the show's original writer John Semper Jr. actually wasn’t asked to write the comic or be involved in any way. “I got a text message this morning from my good friend, Matt Dunford, telling me that Marvel is ‘continuing’ my Spider-Man animated series in comic book form in a four-issue limited series called Spider-Man ’94," Semper explained to fans via X / Twitter on June 18. He continued: "Since I will no doubt be asked about it by fans of the series: NO, I am NOT involved with this comic book and no one at Marvel approached me to be involved in any way. Matt’s text message was the first I heard of it." Semper helmed the animated series, which ran from 1994 to 1998. It was here where the now mainstream and very much beloved “Spider-Verse” storyline originated, when — spoiler alert f...

Dune 3 Casts Jason Momoa’s Son in One of Two Newly Confirmed Roles That Won’t Come as Any Surprise to Fans of the Books, but Could Be Spoiler Territory for Others

Dune 3 has reportedly cast two roles that will come as no surprise to fans of Frank Herbert’s sprawling science fiction book series, but their confirmation veers into potential spoiler territory for others. Warning! Potential spoilers for Dune 3 follow. According to Deadline , Jason Momoa’s son, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, and Silo‘s Ida Brooke are set to play Leto II and Ghanima, the twin offspring of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya). Legendary declined to comment. In the Dune books, Leto II and Ghanima were born on Arrakis 12 years after Paul’s ascension to the role of Emperor. Neither child knows their mother, Chani, who at the end of Dune: Part Two is seen ditching Paul after he makes his intention to marry Princess Irulan and cement his claim to the throne clear. We know that Dune 3 is set to tell the story of the second book, Dune Messiah, which itself is set 12 years after the events of the first book. For Dune 3, that means picking things up amid Paul...

Nicholas Galitzine Reveals First Look at He-Man in Upcoming Masters of the Universe Film — From the Back

He’s certainly a man! Fans have finally gotten the first glimpse of Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man in the upcoming Masters of the Universe film , which has just wrapped filming. The film’s official social media accounts shared an image of Galitzine portraying the character in full costume on June 15, but with his back to the camera and lit in shadow, you know, to keep the mystique alive. The caption on the post included intel directly from production that Galitzine had officially wrapped filming on the project, as well as a statement from the actor. “Well, that’s a wrap on Masters of the Universe. It has been an honour shouldering the responsibility of playing Adam and He-Man,” he gushed in the announcement. “It’s been the role of a lifetime and I put everything into it. There’s not much I can show you, but l am so proud of the movie we’ve made. Thanks to our amazing cast and crew for all your hard work.” It’s clear Galitzine put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into this opportun...

Nosferatu Maestro Robert Eggers May Write and Direct a Christmas Carol Remake for Willem Dafoe to Play Scrooge

Now here’s an interesting filmmaker-studio twist. The Witch and Nosferatu maestro Robert Eggers is being eyed to helm a remake of A Christmas Carol at Warner Bros., and he has his sights set on none other than Willem Dafoe to play his Ebenezer Scrooge. According to a report from Variety , no talent — that means Eggers nor Dafoe — is attached to the project at this stage, but Eggers is being considered and he has interest in having his longtime collaborator take up the leading role. The film is currently in development at the studio, so it would be a while before this would come to fruition anyway. Eggers is currently set to write and direct Werwulf, a period horror film he has in the works at Focus Features, ahead of anything else. So it stands to reason that this project would come after that, and maybe would be ready to shoot just as Eggers finishes with his 13th century nightmare. But wrenches can always be thrown in the mix, so who knows. The filmmaker previously called W...

Brandon Sanderson Says The Wheel of Time Fandom 'Deserved Better' Than a Cancelation After 'The Best Season,' as Over 120,000 Fans Desperate for Season 4 Sign Petition

The Wheel of Time seems dead in the water after Amazon’s cancelation of the Prime Video series following the conclusion of Season 3, and a new report that claims it’s not being shopped around to streamers. On top of that, Brandon Sanderson, who finished author Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time, had some choice words for the people making the decisions. Last month, it emerged that Prime Video had decided against renewing The Wheel of Time for Season 4 after what Deadline reported were “lengthy deliberations.” Apparently executives like the show, but couldn’t make it work financially. The Wheel of Time is an adaptation of the much-loved fantasy book series of the same name by Robert Jordan, with a cast led by Rosamund Pike. After a shaky first two seasons that had fans of the books in uproar over controversial changes from the source material, Season 3 appeared to win over the fanbase and, it was felt, set up the show for even better things to come. However, it seems The Whee...

Out of the Trap? Blumhouse in Talks To Buy Saw Franchise From Twisted Pictures

For those of us who were devastated that the powers that be would essentially just throw our guy John Kramer in the trash, you’ll be happy to know that Jigsaw himself might still be coming back. According to reports, the Saw franchise is in talks to be sold to Blumhouse after the 11th installment was quietly cancelled back in March . The studio, which has made a name for itself over the years by becoming a cornerstone of mainstream horror filmmaking, is currently making a deal to take over the Twisted Pictures side of the franchise, which has been helmed by producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules since the very first installment in 2004 . The banner has owned the rights to Saw alongside Lionsgate, which has been distributing the films from the beginning, and both brands are now synonymous with the franchise. However, it seems like those days are almost over. Say what you will about the move — and considering Blumhouse doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to producing qua...

Warner Bros. Reportedly Wanted a Michael Bay Man of Steel Sequel Starring Henry Cavill, Before James Gunn Was Brought in to Reboot Superman

Warner Bros. reportedly wanted Transformers director Michael Bay to make a Man of Steel sequel starring Henry Cavill before the DC Universe was overhauled and James Gunn set about rebooting Superman. According to TheWrap , execs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy attempted to pull together a "standalone Henry Cavill-led Superman film going in 2022, with Michael Bay eyed to possibly direct.” This effort was made prior to bringing James Gunn and Peter Safran in as the new co-heads of DC Studios , which was announced in October of the same year Warner Bros.' reported attempt to give Cavill back the cape. That said, those attempts clearly fell through, which gave way to bringing Gunn and Safran in to reimagine the DCU — which, in turn, quickly led to Cavill’s exit from the Superman franchise in December 2022, just two months after the co-heads were instated. Obviously, since then, Superman has gone in a completely different direction from the days of Cavill past. David Corenswet, wh...

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 Poster Revealed — and Someone's Trying to Lure Us Back to Fazbear's

Here we go again! The upcoming sequel to the Five Nights at Freddy’s film adaptation , simply titled Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 , has officially released its poster — and needless to say, we’re pretty excited to head back to Freddy Fazbear’s for a slice (pun intended) once again. The one-sheet features a children’s toy called the FazTalker, which feels reminiscent of a two-way radio and one of those kids boombox-microphone combos from Fisher Price back in the day. It features the pizza joint’s main mascot, Freddy Fazbear, and has speakers and/or a microphone in the ears and an open mouth. Instead of an actual bowtie, that space is outlined and a communication screen is in its place. In the poster, that screen reads: “You there?” Clearly, someone is trying to communicate, potentially with Mike, the first film’s leading man who is going to be played once again by The Hunger Games alum Josh Hutcherson. Considering the movie’s final act, it isn’t far-fetched to think this poster image ...

Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning Director on His Superman Movie Pitch: 'In 5 Minutes the Scale of the Movie Would’ve Been Absolutely Extraordinary'

It’s been a while, but Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie is still a little raw about his now-legendary Superman pitch. The filmmaker, who is perhaps best known for his work in the M:I franchise as well as writing 1995’s The Usual Suspects and directing 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick, opened up about what his post- Man of Steel pitch was. Well, somewhat. “I’ll never tell. But boy, it was f—king good. Green Lantern is what had come to me. Green Lantern’s a tough one. The power is very challenging,” McQuarrie told Josh Horowitz in a recent interview for his podcast Happy Sad Confused . “And I cracked it, and it was fun. And watching him learn how to use that power — and giving that power a flaw, so it was not just pure invincibility... The whole concept of Green Lantern is the ring has to be recharged. That’s not a bug, that’s a feature. ‘Yes, you have infinite power, but you only have so much battery life.’ That can run out at inconvenient times. T...
