Star Wars' Mark Hamill Believed Returning as Luke Skywalker For Disney's Sequels Would Be a 'Mistake,' But Felt Compelled After Harrison Ford Signed On

Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, has said he was initially reluctant to return in his iconic Star Wars role, believing that Disney would be unable to "catch lightning in a bottle twice." Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter , Hamill admitted he had "real reservations" about agreeing to return, and believed he wouldn't be the only one of the saga's classic cast to turn Disney down — until he read that even Harrison Ford was coming back as Han Solo. "I had real reservations about coming back," Hamill said. "I thought it would be a mistake. You can't catch lightning in a bottle twice — they should really focus on a new generation of characters. And I thought, 'Well, Harrison is not going to do it anyway.' You could see his irritation with constantly having to talk about Han Solo. "Once I saw in the press that he had accepted," Hamill continued, "I felt like I had been drafted — because if I'm the only one wh...

Andor Creator Driven 'Crazy' Seeing its Success Used to 'Draw Controversy' With Other Star Wars Shows

Andor creator Tony Gilroy has said that he and the show's creative team have been driven "crazy" seeing the positive response to the Star Wars prequel series being used to create "controversy" with the franchise's other Disney+ series. Across its two seasons, Andor has been warmly received by both TV critics and hardcore Star Wars fans alike, with particular praise for its complex characters and political themes. Now, Gilroy has addressed some of the debate surrounding Lucasfilm's other output set in a galaxy far, far away — some of which, it has to be said, has not had as warm a welcome — which simultaneously suggesting that other Star Wars series would be wrong to try and simply clone Andor's success. "It's driven us crazy on the show, every time people, the clickbait, trying to draw controversy between us and the other shows," Gilroy told podcast The Ringer-Verse , via GamesRadar . "By the same token, it would be very wro...

Tron: Ares - The 5 Coolest Things We Saw On Set

Get ready, users: Tron: Ares is on its way to becoming a reality, and I phrase it that way for a reason. Tron: Ares is poised to make good on the open ending of 2010’s Tron: Legacy with a plot focused on programs from the digital world making their way into the real world. In early 2024, Disney invited IGN to visit the set of Tron: Ares to share a wealth of details about what a modern Tron movie looks like, and how it attempts to establish an identity (disc) of its very own. Tron: Ares Is Proud Of Its Legacy… But May Keep It At Arm’s Length Our set visit began with a roundtable discussion with the film’s producer, Justin Springer, whose involvement with the franchise began as a co-producer on 2010’s Tron: Legacy, and naturally, one of the first questions was about how Ares would continue that film’s story. Reports on the then-untitled Tron 3 had pegged it as more of a reboot, centered around a new program called Ares coming into the real world. That was especially confusing , se...

The Office Spinoff Show The Paper Renewed for Season 2 Ahead of Season 1 Premiere

No need to stop the presses — the new The Office spinoff series The Paper is taking TV by storm. In fact, the series has already been renewed for Season 2. The renewal occurred just one day before the new series premieres on Peacock on September 4. It's a result of a lot of positive early attention on the show, which clearly lead to the streamer and NBCUniversal’s decision to give the show a second season without seeing the viewership numbers post-premiere. Domhnall Gleeson, star of the series who plays the pseudo-Michael Scott role, and Sabrina Impacciatore, another featured star in the series who is now best known for her work in Season 2 of The White Lotus, announced the renewal while making an appearance on the Today show to promote the premiere of the series. The series renewal is actually right on time for co-creator Greg Daniels, as he’s been working on a second season already as far as the writing goes. He’s working on the next set of episodes alongside co-executiv...

Ridley Scott Says Gladiator 3 'In the Process Right Now,' Open to a Third Alien Prequel

Legendary Hollywood director Ridley Scott has said Gladiator 3 is "in the process right now," and that he’s open to doing another Alien prequel if he has a good enough idea. Gladiator 2 came out last year and made $462 million worldwide. IGN’s Gladiator 2 review returned an 8/10. We said: “Gladiator 2 finds strength and honor in a familiar story, with enough fresh perspective to feel relevant and an unmissable Denzel Washington supporting turn which practically screams “are you not entertained!?” So, will there be a Gladiator 3? That’s exactly what the 87-year-old English film director and producer was asked in an interview with The Guardian , and he replied to suggest it was very much on. “Gladiator is in process right now,” he insisted. In the same interview, Scott was asked if he’d make another Alien prequel. Scott directed 1979’s seminal sci-fi horror Alien, then years later returned to the franchise for prequels Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. Given the renewed i...

Marvel's Eternals Star Kumail Nanjiani Says He Originally Signed on for 'Six Movies, a Video Game, a Theme Park Ride'

We haven't heard much from any of the characters in Marvel's Eternals since the film debuted in 2021, and apart from a single What If? episode and a quick nod in Captain America: Brave New World , it's unclear if the MCU is going to acknowledge them in a serious way again. But to hear actor Kumail Nanjiani tell it, there may have originally been much bigger plans for at least his character to have a larger role in the MCU long-term. On a recent episode of the Working It Out podcast , Nanjiani talked about his reaction to Eternals' release and its audience reception, saying that he originally signed on with Marvel for "six movies, a video game, a theme park ride." At the time, he says he thought, "This is going to be my job for the next ten years...I'll be doing Marvel movies every year, in between I'll be doing my own little things, whatever I want to do. And then none of that happened." It's likely that whatever big plans Marvel had...

Homer Simpson, Dwight Schrute, and Leslie Knope “Would Totally Upload” Says Series Creator Greg Daniels

The final season of Upload drops today and series creator Greg Daniels is sharing which of the other characters he’s developed would upload themselves into a digital afterlife. Upload, which has run for 4 seasons on Prime Video, follows a set of characters who elect to transfer their consciousness to a fully digital “heaven.” You can check out an exclusive clip from the final set of episodes above. Speaking with IGN Daniels, who also wrote for several seasons of The Simpsons, co-created both King of the Hill and Parks and Recreation, and developed The Office for American television, says some other small-screen favorites would jump at the chance to undergo the upload process. Michael Scott “I think he wouldn't understand it properly and he would undergo it without needing to,” Daniels says. “He would've screwed that up somehow and signed the wrong thing and be expecting a new hairdo or something.” Homer Simpson “I wrote an episode where (Homer) goes back in time (Season...

Nicolas Cage in Talks to Star in True Detective Season 5 for HBO

Nicolas Cage is in talks to star in True Detective Season 5 for HBO. Information about who’s in the running to lead the next chapter of the crime anthology show comes from Variety . If the National Treasure, Longlegs, and Pig star is eventually confirmed to appear, he will only be the latest to join True Detective’s long list of other big-name stars. True Detective Season 5 got the greenlight from HBO in March 2024, with Season 4: Night Country showrunner, writer, director, and executive producer Issa López also confirming her attachment at that time. Her involvement is part of a new, multiyear overall deal that will see her creating exclusive content for HBO Max, beginning with Season 5. True Detective: Night Country took audiences to the blood-soaked streets of a small Alaskan town in 2024, with Jode Foster and Kali Reis picked to lead viewers through its icy mysteries. Should Cage join, he’ll take part in a new, likely warmer story set in the Jamaica Bay area of New York Ci...

That Viral Hot Dog Moment From Weapons Has a Heartfelt and Subtle Meaning For Director Zach Cregger

Did you see Weapons this past weekend? Better yet, did you see all the Weapons memes this past weekend? Whether or not you ended up at the theater, you most likely saw a lot of hilarious posts about the film — maybe even one particular one about a sizable spread of hot dogs. Well, it turns out that hot dog moment in Zach Cregger’s new horror film is actually a subtle and heartfelt nod to his late friend and collaborator, Trevor Moore. Warning! Spoilers for Weapons follow: In the horror mystery, the hot dog moment comes just before a certain someone (keeping spoilers to a min here to protect the innocent, AKA those who have yet to hit their local multiplex) arrives at the home of Marcus, the Maybrook Elementary School principal who is one of the central figures in the story. His husband prepared a lunch tray for the couple to share which consists of seven hot dogs with only mustard, a healthy handful of chips, four chocolate chip cookies, a bowl of raw carrots, and a huge side...

Look, Up in the Sky — It’s an 18’ Statue of Superman!

“Krypto, take me home,” Superman tells his mighty mutt in the opening of the new Superman movie . Home in this case is the Fortress of Solitude, but that’s not his real home. Neither is Smallville, or Metropolis. It’s Cleveland, Ohio. Superman was created in 1934 by two highschoolers from the Glenville suburb of Cleveland named Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. They created the world’s first superhero, and with him invented a whole new genre of fiction. Their names may not be as recognizable as Stan Lee or even Jack Kirby , but they’re household names in Cleveland, which on Saturday, August 2, dedicated a new Siegel & Shuster Superman Plaza downtown. Located in front of the Huntington Convention Center, at the corner of Ontario Street and St. Clair Avenue, the plaza features an awe-inspiring 9.5-foot statue of Superman flying, mounted atop an 18.5-foot pillar. It also features lifesize sculptures of Siegel and Shuster, as well as Joanne Siegel, the original model for Lois Lane...
